Sherwood Public School Rebuild within Madawaska Valley District High School

In April 2014, Trustees with the Renfrew County District School Board directed administration staff to proceed with a consultation within the Barry's Bay community that would seek to rebuild Sherwood Public School.

The goal was to rebuild and ultimately accommodate the Sherwood student population within Madawaska Valley High School family. This decision ensured that Sherwood students would be kept within the same attendance boundary and remain a part of the Barry's Bay community.

Consultations were held with staff, parents and the broader community of Barry's Bay in May 2014.

On June 16, 2014, a motion was passed that allowed RCDSB to apply for capital funding from the Ministry of Education. Preliminary work began immediately with a consultant in order to develop a more detailed cost analysis and identify procurement specifications.

In March of 2015, the Ministry of Education announced the approval to proceed with a capital project that would establish a one-site, JK to 12 school at Madawaska Valley District High School. Funding was from both the School Consolidation Capital Fund and the Full Day Kindergarten Fund.

Additional financial support was received from the Ministry in July of 2015 as part of the School Renewal program. With all three funding sources approved, RCDSB proceeded to tender.

The project was completed September 2016.
